I have spent over 15 years working on systems and looking at ways in which to narrow down fields so that I can study the form on a smaller group. Sometimes trying to work through fields with 10, 12 or even more runners can be a long and drawn out process. Wouldn’t it be great if there was a way to eliminate some of the runners and narrow the field down a bit and make a little bit of money?
During my time I have come across a lot of systems and even devised a few of my own, but whilst there have been successes, there have been more failures so now I have decided to treat this as more of a hobby than anything else. By that I don’t mean that I am not taking it seriously, it’s just that I have come to realise that I will never be a professional punter and make a living from backing horses. So instead I treat my addiction in the same way as a weekend golfer would, I call it a hobby, I try my best and more than anything else I have fun. Backing winners and making money is always nice but I stay within my financial boundaries which is important.
Just think, someone who plays golf every weekend has to spend money on clubs, shoes, equipment as well as green fees and any other ad hoc expenses on the day, a drink at the clubhouse, a sandwich etc. It’s all one way traffic, i.e. paying out. As a horse racing fan there are similar expenses especially when going to a race track but if I manage to pick a couple of winners, then the whole day may work out to be no cost at all. If I spend £50 going to a racecourse, buying a drink, sandwich etc and back a couple of winners that return me a profit of £50, then my day out is effectively “free”. This is what I mean by treating it as a hobby, but I still pick my horses to try and make a profit !!
The best system I have come across is one that works on the flat but I only ever managed to break even with it at best. It lasts for 3 months from June to August and is easy to follow, plus it throws up it’s fair share of winners. That is the sort of thing I have been looking for but it would much nicer if it made some money. I’m not greedy, if I can stake £20 every Saturday and pick up £30 in winnings then I would be happy not only indulging in my passion but also making a bit of money too.
This website is just my way of trying to help others who have an interest like me. People who like to think that there is a way of making the selection of horses a little simpler and are seeking to find it. I am not saying that the content of these pages will make you money and I am certainly not encouraging anyone to gamble with money that they cannot afford to lose. What I am looking to do is to put a slightly different perspective on things for people who understand that they too will never be professional gamblers.
If you have anything to share, let me know.
